Sometimes working with your child's school can be a challenge. At some point, you just need to be the parent and not worry about the laws and the finesse of a meeting. Other times, there may be contention or concern over services or eligibility. And unfortunately, there are times when the school system may not be meeting the needs of your child. Regardless, we all need support when working through the special education process. Whether you need short term or long term support navigating the special education system, the experience I bring to advocacy will provide you with the strongest advantage to obtain the most appropriate programming for your child.
I provide advocacy services in person or via phone/video conferencing. I also provide consultation services to families who solely want some guidance without a presence at the actual meeting. Finally, I provide online/in person training for families seeking information on special education advocacy.
In addition, I train and present to parents and educators. I support a positive advocacy environment.
As a parent of a child with autism, cerebral palsy, PVL and a host of other acronyms, I've been through more meetings than I care to count. Through advocating for his needs, I believe I learned more than a degree could ever teach me. However, in addition to the real life experience I've gained, I also have experience as a special education teacher, school administrator and special education district administrator. The combination of these experiences has allowed me to see issues with a unique perspective and work through issues in a way that continues the flow of information sharing and brings the different perspectives of the IEP team to a point where we are working together to provide an individualized, appropriate program for the student.
I provide a 30 minute consult free of charge. On this consult, I will ask you to share your story and needs and I will respond with a couple of suggestions and we can determine a plan that works best for your needs.
Securing advocacy services will require a signed agreement explaining what you should expect from me and my expectations of you. A retainer fee of $400 will be required to initiate services. Fees will be deducted from that retainer. Once the retainer has been exhausted, fees must be paid in advance.
Contact me directly to discuss your needs and to obtain more detailed pricing.
